Covered pavilion proposed at Mineola train park
A covered pavilion in Iron Horse Square Park is the next phase of improvements to be carried out at Iron Horse Square Park in Mineola.
The Mineola Landmark Commission reviewed preliminary plans for the structure, which would be in the area of the basketball court and include a stage.
It could serve as an unmanned venue for various events in the park.
Funds for the project will be requested from the Meredith Foundation.
The commission reviewed plans for holiday events at its meeting last week.
The commission sponsors the holiday home tour which will be held Sunday, Dec. 3 and includes the Henry home at 411 E. Kilpatrick, the Baker home at 615 N. Johnson and the Smith home at 1137 Kings Lane.
Plans for a local historical marker honoring Mineola namesake Minnie Patten were discussed as a way to cap off the city’s sesquicentennial year. It would be installed in the area of the new 1888 plaza under construction at Commerce and S. Johnson Streets.
