COVID costs Mineola girls team berth in state cross country meet
Mineola girls cross country team placed fourth at the regional meet last week in Dallas. Normally that would qualify the team to advance to state.
But the University Interscholastic League limited state qualifiers to three teams this year in an effort to reduce the number of people attending the state meet.
So the Lady Jackets will have to settle for being three-time state qualifiers without a chance to compete at the meet this year.
The Quitman boys team placed eighth at the meet while the Lady Bulldogs were ninth.
The six Mineola runners are all juniors and will be back next year to attempt to extend their streak of two district championships and three regional qualifiers.
Juliana Stanley paced the Lady Jackets in 19th place running the course in 13:18.99.
Hannah Zoch was 48th in 14:05.18, Kapri Riley 52nd in 14:10.9, Keilee Riley 58th in 14:26.03, Kozbie Riley 71st in 14:42.32 and Riley Weekly 82nd in 14:56.97.
Mineola scored 155 points with Waskom placing third with 143. Whitesboro won the meet with 39 points, and Pilot Point was second with 51.
Cris Alejo placed 61st for the Mineola boys in 19:10.46.
