Texas singer and Voice finalist Hannah Kirby will take the stage March 17 at Poor David's Pub with a rousing acoustic set of Celtic fiddle and traditional Irish drinking songs along with tracks from her debut album "Fire in My Soul." Kirby, based in Sulphur Springs, Texas, will perform at 8 p.m. at the pub located at 1313 South Lamar Street in downtown Dallas.

Accompanying Kirby on stage will be guitarist Kurt Bittner, who has performed with such legends as Charlie Daniels, Doug Kershaw, and The Drifters. They will play Irish classics by the Dubliners, the Clancy Brothers the Irish punk band The Pogues, and others.

Kirby placed in the Top Eight of NBC's top-rated program The Voice in 2015 where her songs cracked iTunes Top 50 twice, with her covers of "Shout" and "We Don't Need Another Hero." Powerful vocals and high-energy performances are her trademarks, causing Pharrell Williams, one of her Voice coaches, to say after her duet of "Gimme Shelter" with Sarah Potenza, "Let me tell you about that Hannahhellip; that was incredible!"

With the recent release of Kirby's all-original, alternative debut album, "Fire in My Soul", already creating a media buzz, her fans might think that singing Irish songs will be a sharp detour from her current alternative band gigs and her Voice performances of rock classic such as "Edge of Seventeen." But Kirby said her love of Irish music runs deep.

"Generations ago, the Kirby side immigrated from Ireland," the artist said. "I think the Irish genes went to my feet for tapping and my hands for fiddling."

Poor David's Pub, a Dallas live entertainment landmark celebrating its 39th anniversary, is known for launching the careers of the Dixie Chicks and Anson Funderburgh, while hosting an impressively long list of sterling talents, including Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Roger McGuinn, Leon Russell and Bo Diddley.

"I've been to Poor David's Pub as a listener and thought it was a really awesome venue with a powerful history," said Kirby, a longtime Dallas music patron. "I'm excited to play there."

"We are a true listening room with great acousticshellip;keeping it focused on the entertainer," said pub owner, David Card.

When offered a Kirby booking, Card grabbed it, and he said he expects a marvelous performance. "Hannah Kirby's success on The Voice speaks volumes," Card said.

Kirby is the daughter of Richard and Nancy Kirby, Sulphur Springs, who have both been educators in Northeast Texas for many years. Her father is a former Yantis High School principal while her mother has worked with special education and diagnostics in Hopkins and Wood Counties. Kirby attended Quitman Elementary School for one year.
