Deputy Austin Cryer took a report of burglary of a habitation from a man and woman who stated their room had been ransacked and money and prescription medication was missing. According to the two, they are currently being allowed to stay in one room of a trailer located on CR 1688 until they can afford to rent an apartment. The man also advised that due to the height of the trailer and the locks on the window, he felt it would be very difficult for anyone to access their room through the window. Cryer recorded information about possible suspects and noted there were no pry marks on the window. Investigators will now interview the suspects and attempt to determine how entry was made into the room.

Just before 5:00 am, Deputy Dustin Moffett was dispatched to CR 1917 to check on a suspicious vehicle. Multiple calls from several different citizens regarding the vehicle were received by the Sheriff's Office. Moffett arrived to find a green Dodge Pickup bearing Arkansas plates parked on the side of the county road and was unable to locate anyone in or near the truck. Moffett noted the entire dash was missing from the pickup as was the VIN plate. The steering column was also busted. Moffett called for a wrecker service to remove the vehicle and while the truck was being loaded a male subject approached on foot and stated the pickup belonged to him but it was not registered to him. He further stated he had allowed a friend to drive it but the friend had run out of gas. Moffett explained to the man that the truck was being towed to the Sheriff's Office impound yard due to it not having a VIN number and bearing signs that the ignition had been defeated. The man was told he could contact the Sheriff's Office and provide proof of ownership if he wished to have the truck returned to him.

Deputy Austin Cryer took a theft report from a woman who resides on FM 14. The woman advised that on December 23 she had been persuaded by a man she knows only as "Roy" to loan him her chainsaw. The woman further stated she did not want to loan the chainsaw out, but after several minutes of pleading by the man she relented. According to the woman, Roy has performed yard work for her in the past and despite several attempts to contact him by phone, she has been unsuccessful and now wishes to pursue charges against him for theft of property. The value of the missing chainsaw is $359. This case was forwarded to CID where investigators will continue to attempt to reach the suspect in an attempt to have the woman's property returned to her.

Deputy Steven Fields was dispatched to a structure fire on Grand Saline Street in Alba. Fields arrived to find the fire department already on scene. Speaking with the homeowner, Fields learned the man had just purchased the home two months prior. The man also advised he had been using the fireplace the past two days and believed it was possibly the source of the fire. According to the man, he was made aware of the fire while outside doing yard work when a passing car honked and pointed to the roof which was on fire. The man was able to get his family out safely. This case has been forwarded to the county fire marshal.

Deputy Tucker George was dispatched to CR 1970 to meet with two employees and the CEO of Peoples Telephone. The employees had discovered several items which belonged to the company damaged by apparent gunshots. An enclosed casing and a pedestal both had multiple bullet holes as did a door to a station room. George also noted several bullet holes in a nearby stop sign. The estimated damage to Peoples Telephone property is $850. The company's CEO advised he did wish to pursue charges against the person(s) responsible. This case remains under active investigation. Leads are being pursued at this time.

Deputy Steven Fields was dispatched to a fire on CR 1670 and arrived to find the fire department on scene. According to the homeowner, she left a pan of grease on the stove while she went to town and returned to find fire and smoke in the area of the stove in the kitchen. She further stated she threw water on the fire then called 911 to have the fire department make sure the fire was fully extinguished. Photographs were taken at the scene and the case has been forwarded to the county fire marshal.

Sgt. Brad Cates was dispatched to a home on PR 7493 for found property. The reporting party stated he had just been released from jail and returned home to find two men in his home who he considered to be "bad news". The man further stated he was familiar with both men and did not want them in his home. After the complainant exchanged words with the men, they eventually left prior to Cates' arrival. The men left behind a pile of copper wire which appeared to have been stripped from the inside of a house or building. According to the complainant, he did not know where the wire came from and did not want it in his home due to his belief that it was stolen. Cates took possession of the wire and transported it to the sheriff's office. Investigators will attempt to determine from where the wire was stolen.

Deputy Austin Cryer was dispatched to CR 2700 for found property. Cryer took possession of a black security box which the reporting party stated he had found in front of his residence. The box contained a woman's social security paperwork. Investigators will work to determine how the box came to be in front of the man's residence and will also attempt to locate the rightful owner of the paperwork.

Sgt. William Burge was dispatched to Holiday Villages where a man reported finding the back window of his pickup broken out. Closer inspection by Sgt. Burge revealed the window had actually been shot out with what was believed to be a BB gun causing an estimated $600 in damages. The complainant further stated the residence in only used as a weekend place for fishing when he and his wife are in Texas but their permanent residence is in Arizona. According to the man he has not had any other negative experiences and had no knowledge or suspicion of who could have committed the act. Photographs were taken of the damaged rear window and the case will be forwarded to an investigator for the development of leads.

Deputy Jeremy Ragsdale was dispatched to an oil lease on CR 2330 in reference to criminal mischief. Ragsdale met with an employee who showed him where copper wiring had been cut at the bottom of the power boxes in two locations. The employee also advised that no copper wiring was taken this time and this was not the first time the wires had been cut. The estimated damage is $400. Ragsdale located the point of entry onto the property used by the suspect(s) and collected one item of evidentiary value. Investigators will attempt to identify suspects in the case using the information collected at the scene.

Deputy Jeremy Ragsdale was dispatched to Holly Hill Circle at Holly Lake Ranch in reference to a computer security breach. According to the female complainant, she observed that an unknown person had breached her Wifi account at approximately 9:30 pm and used her Netflix account to watch a movie. According to the woman, no money was taken from her bank accounts and the suspect did not use her account to rent any movies just simply watched a movie. The woman also stated this also happened in November of last year. Ragsdale noted the woman had already contacted Netflix as well as changed her password. The case has been assigned to an investigator who will attempt to identify the suspect using his online user name.

Deputies James Hildebrand and Justin Bowring along with Sgt. Sam Threadgill responded to a disturbance on US Hwy 69 in the Alba area. A woman stated she was choked by her baby's father following an altercation between the two. Deputies noted the woman bore red marks on her throat consistent with her story. When questioned, the suspect first denied putting his hands on the woman but later stated he and the woman may have "gotten into it" in the car. Trey Deshawn Ross, 21, of Alba was arrested for assault causes bodily injury of family or household member, impede breathing/ circulation and was transported to jail from the scene.

Deputy Jeremy Ragsdale and Sgt. William Burge were dispatched to a residence in CR 2110 in reference to a dog bite. The complainant stated his son was bitten on the wrist and forearm while attempting to break up a fight between their dog and the neighbor's dog. Deputies learned the complainant's dog had gone onto the neighbor's property where the neighbor's dog was chained. A fight broke out between the two dogs resulting in the bites suffered by the complainant's son. The neighbor advised he did not have vaccination records for his dog and would get the dog its shots when he had enough money. The neighbor was issued a citation for failure to vaccinate the dog for rabies. This case is closed.

Deputy Jeremy Ragsdale took a theft report from a complainant on Hwy 11 in the Winnsboro area. The man stated that a pair of needle nose pliers were missing from a wooden box on a boat trailer and a Maglite was missing from the garage. According to the man, the value of the missing property is $18. The man also stated items were missing from his cousin's flat bottom boat but his cousin did not wish to pursue charges. Information was recorded about a suspect and the case was forwarded to CID for continued investigation.

Deputy Justin Bowring took a report of an assault which occurred on CR 2172. The woman stated her boyfriend became upset with her after he believed she was paying inappropriate attention to friends of her boyfriend's son. The woman stated she was choked almost to the point of unconsciousness and was also struck with an open hand on both sides of her face. Photographs were taken showing a small amount of redness on the woman's neck. She was assisted with finding a safe place to stay for the night due to her fear of retaliation from the man for reporting the assault. This case has been forwarded to investigators for warrant review.

Deputy Tucker George took a report of a burglary of a habitation from a complainant on Village Trail at Holly Lake Ranch. The woman stated she was away from her residence for six days and returned to find the door damaged and items missing from inside. The missing items include a collection of DVDs, a surround sound system, a paintball gun, and miscellaneous jewelry. The total value of the missing property is approximately $275. George recorded information about a man the woman suspects is involved and forwarded the case to an investigator who will attempt to determine if the man is a viable suspect.

Deputies Aaron Warren and Tucker George were dispatched to an address on Pagosa Lane at Holly Lake Ranch where a woman reported her mailbox had been blown up and unknown mail was missing. Further inspection by the deputies revealed that someone had also written an accusatory statement on the road in front of the house and drawn arrows toward her property. Information was recorded regarding a suspect whom Holly Lake Ranch security officers believe is responsible. The case has been forwarded to CID and remains under active investigation.

Lt. Kelly Smith took a report of a fraudulent check from a woman who stated she had received the check as payment for being a mystery shopper. After taking the check to her bank, she was informed the check was counterfeit and a report needed to be made with law enforcement. An incident report was completed for documentation purposes and the case was closed.

Sgt. Brad Cates initiated a traffic stop on a passenger car just off SH 37 after being informed by a local police officer that the driver had just left a business in Quitman and unbeknownst to the driver he had dropped two baggies of suspected methamphetamine from his pocket. A routine check of the driver revealed he did not have a valid driver's license. Joseph Smith, Jr., 29, of Mineola, was arrested for the offense of driving while license invalid. It was later discovered Smith is a convicted felon, leading to a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon after a 9mm rifle was found under the passenger seat of the car. The vehicle was released to the passenger.

Deputy Austin Cryer was dispatched to CR 1900 for a complaint regarding cattle coming onto the complainant's property. According to the man, his neighbor's cattle have been getting through the fence and coming into his pasture for years. The man also stated the cattle have caused damage to fencing on his property as well as left tracks several inches deep in a dirt racing track on his land. Cryer photographed the damage and the cattle, which were still present on the man's property. The owner of the cattle was issued a citation for failure to keep up animals prohibited from running at large. This case is closed.

Deputy Steven Fields was dispatched to Peaceful Valley Trail at Holly Lake Ranch for a structure fire. Fields spoke with the tenants of the rental property who stated they had gone to bed and left a fire in the fireplace that had burned down to just embers. Firemen on the scene confirmed the fireplace to be the source of ignition. The fire damage was contained to the fireplace and adjacent wall area. Photos were taken at the scene and the case has been forwarded to the county fire marshal.

Deputy Tucker George was dispatched to the Pirates Club bar located on CR 3440 in reference to a theft of alcohol. According to the complainant, he discovered at least two bottles of alcohol missing from the bar including a bottle of Kentucky Deluxe with a retail value of $161 and a bottle of Fireball whiskey with a retail value of $199. The man was uncertain what other bottles of alcohol, if any, were missing and stated he would check his inventory with his distributor the following day. The bar owner also stated the two missing bottles had labels with serial numbers making them easily identifiable. The man was also able to give information regarding a customer of his who had given him information about a man who was seen in possession of one of the stolen bottles. George made contact with the customer who was able to direct him to the location of one of the discarded bottles. George examined the bottle and determined it did have what appeared to be the label and serial number given to him by the complainant. Deputy George took possession of the discarded bottle and logged it into evidence. CID will now be in charge of the case which is being actively investigated.

Investigator Sgt. Robert Holland obtained one felony warrant for Justin Daniel Shaddox, 26, of Hawkins for burglary of a habitation. Holland was able to obtain a search warrant for Shaddox' property and, upon execution, stolen property was recovered and returned to its rightful owner.

Captain Miles Tucker and Investigator Sgt. Jacob Richardson arrested Ronald LaArthur Chase, 47, of Hawkins for four counts of unlawful possession of a firearm. Chase's arrest and the subsequent recovery of four stolen firearms solved two recently reported burglaries.
