DAR chapter honors veterans on Valentines

We would like to extend our gratitude for all the sacrifices our military and veterans have made for our country. There are several holidays designated for this, but the ladies of your local National Society Daughters of the American Revolution feel that Feb. 14, the national day of love, is one of the best.

The origin behind Valentine’s Day is clouded and actually rather dark. But the holiday centers around one common theme – that theme is sacrifice for love. While the sacrifice is usually oneself for love of person, we recognize the sacrifice of love no matter the reason. And no greater the reason than the love one has for his/her country – for those you do not know, both women and men.

For Valentine’s Day 2019, the ladies of the Elizabeth Denton English DAR Chapter gathered Valentine’s Day cards to celebrate the love and sacrifice our country’s veterans have shown. The ladies of the Mineola based DAR collected 280 bags of candy and 300 signed cards for the Bonham Veterans Home. They also made sure that 85 residents of the Watkins-Logan Veterans Home in Tyler had cards of good will. It is with great appreciation and love that we give this small token of thanks to those whose love meant sacrificing life and limb.

We love our country!
