July 26 - Sergeant Austin Cryer took a report from a Yantis woman who stated someone had used her identity to open a bank account with SunTrust Bank. An incident report was completed for documentation purposes.

Sergeant Cryer was dispatched to the area of Farm-to-Market Road 2088 and FM 312 in response to a report that a man was unconscious under a tree beside the roadway. Cryer arrived and located the man who was still unconscious and held an unopened beer in his hand. Sgt. Cryer was able to wake the man up and get his identity. The man stated he had ridden a tricycle to his current location. Claston Wayne Beardon, 44, of Winnsboro was arrested for public intoxication. He was transported to jail without incident.

Deputy Joshua Davis conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Highway 154 near Holiday Villages after determining the van’s registration expired in 2014. The driver was unable to provide a driver’s license or proof of insurance. The passenger, Matthew John Johnson, 29, of Quitman was arrested after he was found to be in possession of a controlled substance. He was transported to jail where he was booked on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

July 25 - Sergeant Cryer took a report from a Mineola man who stated he had discovered fraudulent charges on his Valero credit card totaling over $700. The charges were made in the Miami, Florida area. The complainant was still in possession of his card; only the card number had been stolen. An incident report was completed for documentation purposes and the case was closed.

July 24 - Deputy Melissa Pollard was dispatched to County Road 1912 on a report of criminal mischief. A man reported that two tires on his son’s truck had been cut sometime after 6:30 the previous evening. The damage estimate is $200. An incident report was completed for documentation purposes.

Lieutenant Robert Holland and Deputy Dustin Fenlaw were dispatched to a residence on CR 3909 in reference to a disturbance. A woman reported that she and her ex-husband, with whom she still resides, had gotten into an argument over his drinking. The woman stated she had poured out some of the man’s alcohol which led to an argument during which the man pulled her hair, causing her pain. The woman wanted to pursue charges in the matter therefore the man was taken into custody. Robert Lee Sharp, 69, of Hawkins was transported to jail without incident. He is charged with assault, family violence.

Sergeant Donivan South was dispatched to the area of Private Road 6956 on a report of suspicious activity. South was advised that a man, who did not have a valid driver’s license, was driving around the area in a beige Chevy S-10 Blazer. The reporting party stated she was afraid of the man and believed he was attempting to intimidate her. Sergeant South was able to locate the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The driver advised that he does not currently have a driver’s license. Billy Ray White, 36, of Wills Point, was arrested for driving while license invalid and was transported to jail. At his request, the vehicle was released to his mother-in-law.

July 23 – Deputy Melissa Pollard was dispatched to CR 4859 at the boat ramp for a burglary of a vehicle. The complainant stated he had returned from fishing to find the passenger side front window busted out on his pickup. Although it was evident that items inside the truck had been tampered with, nothing was deemed to be missing. The man also advised that three other vehicles at that location had been broken into as well. One item of evidence was collected at the scene. The case has been turned over to CID for additional investigation.

Deputy Aaron Warren took a report of fraud from a woman on CR 3230. The woman stated she had allowed remote access of her computer to have it repaired after a pop-up screen stated her computer was infected with a virus. After paying for the repair, the woman was later contacted by the repair company who stated she was due a refund. The woman was told to check her account, which she did, and discovered too much money had been credited to her account. She was advised to send the overage, via Western Union, back to the company. She was later contacted again by the company who stated they had accidentally deposited in her account again. She was asked to send the $1,700 via Western Union just as before. The woman again complied. She later discovered the “deposits” into her account were actually transfers from her own savings account. This case has been forwarded and remains under investigation.

Deputy Tucker George arrested Ronald Smauley, 48, of Hawkins following a traffic stop initiated when Deputy George observed Smauley driving a pickup truck whose registration expired in 2012. Smauley was taken into custody after he was found to have an outstanding blue warrant. Smauley’s passenger, Jennifer Darlene Barnes, 31, of Big Sandy, was arrested after admitting ownership of suspected methamphetamine found in the pickup. Both were transported to jail without further incident. A wrecker service was summoned for the unregistered pickup.

July 22 - Deputy Warren took a report of burglary of a building from Mineola Pipe and Steel on Highway 69. The owner reported that someone had entered the shop building sometime after 6:30 p.m. the previous evening. Several items were discovered to be missing including two chop saws, an angle grinder and a floor jack. Entry is believed to have been made through the sliding side door. The value of the missing property is approximately $500. Information was recorded concerning two suspects.

Deputy Pollard was dispatched to CR 1558 for a theft report. The complainant advised that multiple items of fishing equipment were missing from his boat which had been docked at the marina overnight. The missing items include several rod and reel combos, a life jacket, three totes with miscellaneous fishing tackle and a dip net. Information was recorded about suspicious persons seen in the area of the boat the previous night.

Deputy Fenlaw took a report of theft from an Odessa man who stated multiple items were missing from a house he owned on CR 4798. The missing items include a washer and dryer, side by side refrigerator, a window air conditioner, water heater, propane heater and a wood burning stove. The value of the missing property is $3,350. Information was recorded regarding a woman who had previous lived at the residence and who is considered a suspect in the theft.

Deputy Pollard arrested George Albert Nusser, Jr., 41, of Quitman for violation of a protective order that made it unlawful for him to be within 500 yards of his estranged wife. Mr. Nusser was found to be at a residence on CR 3147 a mere 150 yards from the protected residence.

July 21 - Sgt. Cryer, along with several other deputies, responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired at a residence at Holiday Villages. A wrecker driver reported that a man fired three times at him and his partner as they were attempting to repossess a vehicle. The wrecker driver was able to produce paperwork authorizing him to take possession of the vehicle. A woman had fled the scene in the vehicle before the deputies’ arrival. After a brief investigation at the scene, Geral Dee Willingham, 44, of Quitman was taken into custody and transported to jail. He is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

July 20 - Deputy Jeremy Ragsdale was dispatched to Highway 69 in the Alba area for a burglary of a building. The complainant stated he had discovered someone entered his building and took a large amount of miscellaneous tools. The tools are described as being both metric and standard with different combinations of sockets and wrenches. Also taken was approximately $1,200 worth of Freon.

Deputy Davis was dispatched to a residence on FM 14 in the Hawkins area. A woman complainant stated that the property belongs to her father who is currently out of state. The woman advised she had arrived to find a back window broken and open. Nothing was deemed to be missing from inside the residence.

Deputy Ragsdale took a report of debit card abuse from a Winnsboro man who stated his wife had discovered fraudulent charges on their account, all of the charges were made in the Dallas area. The man also advised that his wife is still in possession of her card. The fraudulent charges totaled just under $65. This case is closed.

Deputy Ragsdale took a theft report from a Quitman man who stated a five-ton air conditioning unit and a propane tank were missing from his rental property on CR 1460. The missing property is valued at $4,100. The man also advised his tenant had recently moved out of the property leaving damage to one of the interior walls. Information was recorded regarding the tenant and has been passed on to investigators who will attempt to locate the man for questioning.
