The Quitman Bulldogs parlayed a tough defense to key two home victories holding Overton to single digits in a 62-9 win Tuesday and coming back Friday for a 70-23 victory over Dallas A+ Academy.

The Bulldogs host Winnsboro at Delbert Ballard Gym Tuesday followed by the Quitman Tournament this weekend.

Against Overton, Trey Berry had a game high of 25 points followed by Jace Reid’s 17 and Luke Pruden’s 10. Ty Holland added four points while Ben Burroughs, Aiden Corrior and Cody Hawley each had two points. Defense was strong throughout the game holding the Mustangs to single digits in the 62-9 win.

Reid and Berry again provided the offensive spark as the Bulldog defense shut down the A+ Knights. Reid hit for 23 points with seven rebounds and four assists. Berry added 20 points with six assists and five steals. Pruden added nine points and four rebounds. Also strong on the boards was Burroughs who collected nine rebounds and three points. Riley Flanagan brought down seven rebounds and scored four points.

Corrior had four points and four rebounds while River Chaney three points and a pair of assists and Hunter Gilbreath added four points and three rebounds.

After hosting Winnsboro Tuesday, Quitman will host a varsity and junior varsity tournament beginning Thursday at two locations, the Ballard Gym and the gym on the high school campus.

The varsity will open the tournament at the high school gym Thursday against Como-Pickton at the high school gym and move to Ballard Gym for a 5:30 p.m. game against Cumby. The junior varsity will play at the high school gym at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

District play begins Dec. 18 at home against Grand Saline.
