Developer addresses subdivision concerns
Wood County commissioners fielded concerns over a proposed subdivision in the Golden area during citizen comments Tuesday.
Assistant District Attorney Brandon Badde, developer Cory Morehead and property owner Sten Langsjoen spoke concerning the planned development.
Baade said, “County commissioners, by law, cannot set use restrictions on most property, but there are exceptions.”
Developer Cory Morehead spoke about his plans for the subdivision.
“I wanted to come here just to answer questions local residents may have to clear the air and make sure they hear it directly from me,” Morehead noted. “I have done about 20 or so of these type subdivisions all over the state, mostly in East Texas. Typically what I do is take a larger tract and give lots with multiple acres, sometimes up to five to ten acres. I always follow the county rules.”
County Judge Lucy Hebron said public comments can be brought to the commissioners, but an item has to be on the agenda to be discussed in depth.
Precinct 2 Commissioner Jerry Gaskill said, “As a commissioner we have to go by rules and regulations set by the state. Believe me, we are going to check out everything about this subdivision making sure everything is done properly. I’m no different than any of you. I can’t break the law, I am not a dictator and I can’t tell someone you can or can’t do this with your property. You have to go by rules and regulations.”
Langsjoen, an attorney who has challenged Gaskill in the Republican primary, was hoping to have the item placed on the agenda concerning a petition signed by property owners in the area.
“We are expressing a very heartfelt concern over rapid and uncontrolled subdivision growth in areas of this county,” Lansjoen stated. “I am specifically asking that this will be placed on the next available docket.”
