Cowboy poet Derek Duncan, called "The Texas Tumbleweed," will present a program for the March 11 meeting of "Saints Alive" of Holly Brook Baptist Church. Duncan paints pictures of the drama and humor of cowboy life with words that rhyme. Members will contribute foods to a potluck lunch inspired by fare of the Western region of the United States. Games start at 10 a.m. and the program at 11. Lunch is served at noon. Holly Brook Baptist Church is located at 3219 S. FM 2869, Hawkins, telephone 903-769-2091.
J.R. and Gloria Matthews will lead a group of Holly Brook Baptist Church volunteers on a mission to West, Texas from March 10-21 to help build three houses to replace homes destroyed last April in the explosion of a fertilizer plant. Holly
Brook members will partner with members of First Baptist Church of West. In addition to construction, volunteers will also prepare food for the workers. Places are open for Holly Brook workers, and other church members are requested to contribute homemade cookies for refreshments for the crews. For more information, call 903- 769-2091.
The annual Dogwood Pageant is coming up on April 5! The Quitman Chamber of Commerce has extended the deadline for pageant entries until March 7, so be sure to sign up now. Currently, there are three Little Miss Dogwood contestants, four Junior Miss Dogwood contestants, and two Miss Dogwood contestants.
