Quitman girls drop two games

The Quitman Lady Bulldogs dropped district games to Edgewood and Eustace last week. The Edgewood full-court press led to numerous turnovers for Quitman as the Lady Bulldogs fell behind 20-2 after one quarter. Quitman’s only points came on two free throws by Brittany Walls.

Edgewood would score 23 second-quarter points to eight for Quitman to make it 43-10 at intermission. Walls hit a three-point shot at the beginning of the second quarter for Quitman’s only field goal of the first half. Walls, Shelby Smith and Kaci Raley each had free throws in the quarter.

Walls and Raley hit on a pair of three-point shots while sophomore post Utopia Henry came into the game and scored four points in the quarter. Quitman went into the final quarter down 57-20. Raley hit another three and Walls added a field goal in the final quarter to make the score 65-25 in favor of Edgewood.

The Lady Bulldogs (4-21, 1-10) fell to Eustace Friday night 53-26. The Lady Bulldogs are on the road this week playing the Alba-Golden Lady Panthers (23-8, 11-0) Tuesday, after Monitor press time, before traveling to Grand Saline Friday. The Lady Bulldogs will finish the season at home Tuesday against Mineola and it will be Senior Night for Brittany Walls, Shelby Smith and Macy Wilson.
