DPS team fishing tourney

The Texas Department of Public Safety Team Fishing Tournament sponsored by the Department of Public Safety Officers Association (DPSOA) is in the books. The event had 85 teams compete in the one-day affair headquartered at Lake Fork Marina.

Proceeds from the tournament will go to the department which supports troopers’ families in times of serious need. The organization also makes educational scholarship funding available for troopers’ families.

The team of Robert Roberts and Charlie Abrech won the tournament. They turned in the largest bass at 9.39 poundsand total of 16.02 pounds winning $5,500. Roberts and Abrech returned half of their winnings back to the department.

Second place winners were the team of Jason Burton and Jody Kea who earned $1,800. Third place was Logan Slaughter and Greg Schmeisser earning $1,400, fourth place was Ronnie Harrison and Todd Hough who earned $1,000, fifth place was Don Penick and Travis Copeland, $700.

Quitman graduate Trooper Joseph Hogue and Sergeant Michael Sparks organized the tournament.
