Earl Douglas Kernes took his final flight on Nov. 20, 2018. He was born on July 30, 1944, in Hopkins County to William Daniel and Mabel Pedigo Kernes.

He surrendered to preach on Jan. 27, 1971 and pastored churches in Rains County, Wood County, and Bowie County. He was a man of many talents. He enjoyed serving God and was a blessing to many people.

He married Mary Gilliland on Oct. 27, 1961. They shared a life together for 57 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W.D. and Mabel Kernes; a sister, Josie Logsdon of California; and a brother, James of Sulphur Springs.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Magdalene Kernes; son and his wife, Lynn and Tania of Quitman; son Doug of Quitman; daughter and her husband, Lynita and John of Alba; three brothers and their wives, Floyd and Bonnie of Lepanto, Arkansas, Bill and Alice of Quitman, and David and Marylou of Quitman; sister, Oda Mae Strebeck of Texarkana; eight grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
