Early voting continues for primary

Early voting for the March 3 party primaries started Tuesday in Wood County. Registered voters may cast their ballots at the new county annex in Quitman weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday Feb. 22 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Other locations for early voting will be held Feb. 27-28 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sites other than the courthouse annex to vote are Hawkins Community Center at 301 Lynch St., First United Methodist Ministries Center at 612 N. Newsom St. in Mineola and Winnsboro City Auditorium.

In Wood County, there are six contested races in the Republican primary. They are district judge, district attorney, sheriff, constables in Precincts 1 and 3 and commissioner in Precinct 1.

Polls will open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on March 3. 

In Texas, voters are required to bring a valid form of ID with them to the polls. There are seven forms of ID voters can use: 

  • Driver’s License
  • US passport
  • US military photo ID
  • Texas Personal Identification card
  • photo US citizenship certificate
  • Texas Election Identification Certificate.

If they do not have a photo ID or cannot reasonably obtain one, they may still vote upon signing a form and presenting an original copy of their Voter Registration Card, certified birth certificate, current utility bill, bank statement, government check, or paycheck with their name and address on it.
