The next 2nd Friday Acoustical Music Jam is Friday, September 11, 2015 6 - 9 p.m. at the Quitman Public Library. All ages and skill levels are welcome - and listeners are welcome, too! Refreshments are available. Come early to tune up.

September is National Library Card Sign-up Month to remind people that one of the most important learning tools is a library card. Patron cards are available for those residents who can provide proof of residence in Wood County and photo identification. A guardian must sign for children ages 5-17. Enrollment is now open for GED® or General Educational Development preparatory classes. These classes are taught by Virginia Haney and are scheduled to begin in Thursday, October 8, 2015 from 4:30 - 6 p.m at the Quitman Public Library. Sign up at the library's front desk, or call Peggy Lustig in Jacksonville TX at 903-589-6900 for more information.

Free knitting and crochet instruction is offered each Thursday 2 - 4 p.m. in the library's main gallery. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies and join the group.

During September, there will be no Story Time. It will resume in October at its regularly scheduled time: Thursdays 2 - 3 p.m. Story Time is directed by Elizabeth Soutendijk.

The Friends of the Library met Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at noon and greeted returning and new FOL members with a "Welcome Party Mixer." The Annual FOL Fall Book Sale will be held Thursday, September 24, through Friday, September 25, 2015 from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. with a sneak preview for members and those who wish to help with the set-up on Wednesday, September 23rd.

Officers for FY2016 are: Teresa Meeks - President, Delene Allen - Vice President, Kim Watterson - Treasurer, Diane Moseley - Secretary, Melba Hargrave - Hospitality.

The FOL will hold a raffle this fall for a hand-quilted quilt finished by the Quitman Piecemakers, so please stop by the library to see this beautiful quilt and purchase your ticket to win.

The Wood County TX Genealogical Society will meet Monday, September 21, 2015 at the library. Visit the group's Facebook page at http:// woocotx and website at http:// . The library has several copies of Wood County 1850-1900 available for $15.00 each. Proceeds benefit the Wood County Historical Society.
