Elyse LaRue Reed 1923-2019

Elyse LaRue Reed was born July 1, 1923, in Quitman to Addie Bernice Hausenfluke Reed and John Lofton Reed. She was one of four children including her big sister Marie, brother Marion and baby sister Mary Helen. Elyse married William Thomas Folowell in 1946 and had one daughter Jana, and two sons William and John. Those children have blessed her with grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom have known Elyse as their Gigi. She was a woman before her time, a fearless businesswoman and role model. She was independent in spirit enjoying her family, the church, gardening, cooking and was active in softball, bowling, golfing and fishing while spending her summers on the coast. Elyse passed from this world, at her home, in Sulphur Springs, on June 7, 2019, just shy of her 96th birthday on Juneteenth. Elyse was preceded in death by her brother, Marion Reed, and sister Marie Hartsfield. Survivors include her sister, Mary Helen Lawrence of Rockwall; daughter, Jana Folowell Randall of Sulphur Springs; son, William Folowell of Albuquerque, N.M.; son, John Randal Folowell of Quitman; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family plans a memorial service at Rock Hill Cemetery in Quitman Saturday, June 22 at 10:30 a.m. to celebrate Elyse’s 96th birthday in heaven. Food at family Quitman home follows.
