Etheridge joins MISD board
Janice Etheridge was sworn in as a new Mineola school trustee Monday.
She will serve a three-year term after the school board certified the results of the May 7 election at a special meeting May 10.
She received 360 votes to 356 for Todd Morgan.
Two other seats were retained by incumbents Jill Quiambao with 631 votes and Glen Dossett with 523.
The election also included a $29.855 million bond, which passed 605-398, to build a new primary school and upgrade career and technical education facilities, including using the elementary school as a CTE center.
Voter turnout was 16.4% of the 6,513 registered voters. Of the 1,003 votes cast for the bond, 549 were on election day, 353 were early and 101 were absentee (mail-in).
The board approved a request for an electrical utility easement on district property south of the University St. gym for duplexes being built by Ryan Poole at University and McDonald Streets.
