Young ballplayers from throughout the area will flock to Mineola on Saturday for the Mineola Youth Foundation’s Fall Ball League.

The Youth Foundation ball fields on Loop 564 will host 61 teams from the cities of Mineola, Hawkins, Alba, Grand Saline, Edgewood, Winnsboro, Gilmer, Athens, Lindale, Winona, Quitman and Emory. Youth Foundation president Robert Hamlin estimates that as many as 2,000 people will come to Mineola for the games.

Fall Ball is for boys and girls ages 4 through 11, and the kids will compete in the following age groups: 4-6, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12. During the five-week regular season, teams will play doubleheaders every Saturday. In the sixth week, the youngsters will compete in the World Series.

The Youth Foundation’s Fall Ball league has grown exponentially in the three years it has been in existence, according to Hamlin. The first year drew seven teams, the second 35, and this year 61.
