Quitman Police Department activities through Jan. 6 were as follows:

Jan. 6 - Officer Joe Andrade was dispatched to a residence on Puckett Street in reference to a possible suicidal subject. Andrade was advised that the man had apparently consumed a large quantity of alcohol and had also taken several prescription pain pills. Officer Andrade summoned EMS to the location, but the man refused transport and became violent. After a brief struggle, he was transported to ETMC Quitman for evaluation.

Jan. 5 - Officer Patrick Wilson responded to a residence on Walker Street in response to a report of a burglary. The home is currently in the process of being remodeled. Several tools, including a Paslode finish nailer, Bosch double tank air compressor, a miter saw, Torpedo heater and a 50’ air hose were missing. The total value of the missing property is approximately $600. The complainant, who is employed by the owner of the residence, stated he believed entry was made through a back window. Photographs were taken at the scene and this case has been turned over to Lt. John Farmer for investigation.

Officer Patrick Wilson took a report of fraud from a local business owner who stated he had discovered that one of his former employees had cashed some of her payroll checks twice. The man was unsure how the woman was able to cash the checks multiple times, but provided bank statements to verify his report. The multiple cashing of the paychecks resulted in a loss to the business owner of $4,259. Farmer is currently investigating this case.

While on routine patrol, Officer Austin Milbourn initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle after he observed the vehicle to have defective tail lamps. During the course of his contact with the occupants of the vehicle, Milbourn was notified that one of the occupants had an outstanding warrant for parole violation. Christopher Stone, 34, Commerce, was taken into custody on the active warrant. He was transported to jail without incident. The driver of the vehicle was issued a citation for failure to maintain financial responsibility.

Jan. 4 - Jerry Crawford, 43, of Quitman was arrested for driving while license invalid after Milbourn witnessed Crawford pull into a local convenience store. Having prior knowledge that Crawford did not have a valid license, Milbourn made contact with him and a routine check of Crawford’s driver’s license revealed it was invalid. Crawford was taken into custody and transported to jail without incident.
