Kiwanis taking donations for sale

The Mineola Kiwanis Club is inviting the public to join with them in helping to save a life. The club is planning a fundraising garage sale in a month to raise money for their worldwide tetanus elimination project by donating items for the sale.

A club spokesperson said, “By donating gently used items to the Mineola Kiwanis Club’s garage sale, you can support the Kiwanis International worldwide project to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus from the world.” The sale will be held Saturday, April 22 at the Grace Community Healthcare parking lot on N. Pacific in Mineola from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Kiwanis Club of Mineola has raised just over $36,000 for this project. They say, to date, the money has been used to save over 20,000 lives. The Kiwanis International goal is to raise $110 million. Mothers of child bearing age receive a series of three shots that cost $1.80 to protect them and their unborn babies for 10 years. In the last two years, the mortality rate from neonatal tetanus has dropped from 49,000 per year to 34,000 which is a decrease of 30 percent.

To donate items for the garage sale, call Pam Palmer at Grace Healthcare at 903-569-0020 or Joyce Curry at 903-569-2729. If you wish to give a personal donation of money, send to Kiwanis Club of Mineola, P.O. Box 326, Mineola TX, 75773.
