Filing underway for March party primaries

The filing period for the March 3 party primary elections got underway on Saturday.

The filing period ends Dec. 9.

In Wood County, Republican Party Chairman Jana Castloo fielded her first application Tuesday morning from Jodi Cox of Winnsboro to run for the unexpired term for district attorney.

Also filing Tuesday were four incumbents: District Attorney Angela Albers, District Judge Jeff Fletcher, Prec. 2 Constable Kelly Smith and Prec. 1 Commissioner Virgil Holland Jr.

Brad McCampbell also filed for district judge.

Other county offices to be decided include sheriff, tax assessor-collector, Commissioner Prec. 3, all four precinct constables, Republican party chair and Democratic party chair.

All are for four-year terms except the two-year unexpired term for district attorney.

State representative and U.S. representative will also be on the ballot for two-year terms, along with state senator for four years and one U.S. Senate seat for six years.

This will be a presidential election year, which means most of the major state offices in Texas are not on the ballot.

Several candidates have made formal campaign announcements but had not yet officially filed as of press time Tuesday morning.

No Democrats had filed locally Tuesday morning.
