First responder tournament deemed a success
The Mineola Fire Department softball team took first place at the first responders softball tournament held Saturday at Quitman’s Youth Foundation Park and the Quitman ISD softball complex.
The Mineola firefighters used the power of the long ball and speed to fight their way through the nine team co-ed tournament. They defeated a team of combined volunteer fire department members in the championship final.
District Attorney Ange Albers said the tournament was successful.
“We had a great tournament and were pleased with such a great turnout all day long,” Albers said. “Everyone had a great time. There were families and a lot of kids out there for the day. I’m going to talk to all the team captains and see when they want to do it again next year.”
