First-time online auction exceeds expectations for Quitman Pilot Club’s community projects

The Quitman Pilot Club’s Fall Fundraiser was an online auction hosted by Northeast Texas Antiques & Auctions, held Nov. 5-11. The club exceeded its ambitious $14,000 goal.

Online bidding was fast and furious in those last moments, and bidders walked away with some excellent adventures, merchandise and gift card packages. All the items were donated by Pilots, local merchants and patrons.

The money raised will support the non-profit club’s mission of providing education for the prevention of traumatic brain injury and offering services to those suffering from brain related disorders, such as Alzheimer’s, stroke and autism. Bicycle Safety, Project LifeSaver and Special Olympics are just a few of those efforts so important to the health, safety and quality of life for community members.

Most recently, the club sponsored “When Sean Speaks” at Mineola, Yantis, Quitman and Alba Golden schools, a powerful program that underscores that alcohol, automobiles and asphalt don’t mix.

About the online auction, club President Sharon Brooks, said, “Our community never ceases to amaze us.  We tried something new this year, with the fantastic help of David and Judy Peacock at Northeast Texas Antiques & Auctions. We had no idea if this new style of fundraising would work for us, but it exceeded our expectations. We could not be more grateful to the Peacocks, to our other sponsor, and to the community that spiritedly bid. To each, a big Pilot thank you!”

Brooks also added, “We are also extremely happy to announce that in January, we will hold our annual Chili Cook-Off at the Carroll Green Civic Center on Friday night, Jan. 28. This is a much anticipated annual event and the community and all of us Pilots greatly missed it last year. We can’t wait to see everybody then!”
