After making a playoff appearance with an 8-6 district record to go along with their 15-11 overall record, five Mineola Yellowjackets were awarded All-District honors for their performance during basketball season.

Junior guard / forward Shaw Franklin and senior point guard Cameron Sorenson headlined the Jackets who earned awards this year as both earned First Team selections. Franklin and Sorenson who proved to be one of the district’s best one-two punches also earned first team accolades last fall during football season.

Senior center Sean Dennis and junior forward Devion Sneed were award Second Team All-District as they both were key in establishing a rebounding and size advantage for Mineola this season.

As one of the best freshman to make a varsity roster in the district this season guard Jonah Fischer earned Freshman of the Year. Fischer also played a key role on the Jackets squad this year playing back-up point guard while also being one of the team’s best outside shooters.

Three other Jacket players earned honorable mentions during the district’s selection meeting including Trevion Sneed, Connor Dobbs and Kadavion George.

The Jackets saw a similar result as last season with their team losing 10 regular season games and losing in the first round however the team was optimistic that next season they will take the next step in improving their overall season’s success.

After having one of the county’s most talented teams Head Coach Ryan Steadman says he believes his players will come back hungrier next year and that he looks forward to getting back to work this summer.

“I think the players that won these awards have had good seasons but they would probably each tell you they weren’t satisfied! I enjoyed watching a lot of these players develop into better players and men, look forward to coaching them next year,” Steadman said last week via text.

New leadership will need to be found heading in to next year as they Jackets will lose Sorenson and Dennis, both seniors who will graduate in May.
