Flores earns silver, sets bench press state record

Carlos Flores of Quitman placed second in the state power lifting meet Friday in Abilene and set a state record for his classification in the bench press.

Flores competes in the 123-pound class and recorded a bench press of 315 pounds to eclipse his own record by 10 pounds.

He also had a squat of 435 pounds and had a dead lift of 415 pounds for an 1,165-pound total.

He missed first place by a total of five pounds for the three lifts.

Also for Quitman, Devin Robertson placed 13th in the 181-pound class with lifts totaling 1,380 pounds (520, 315, 545).

Moses Medellin of Mineola competed in the 181 class and placed seventh with total lifts of 1,445 pounds (540, 385, 520).

In Division 4 on Saturday, Layton Williams of Alba-Golden placed fifth in the 275-pound class with lifts totaling1,635 pounds including 675, 375 and 585.
