FINAL: Mt. Vernon 23, Mineola 20

Only one game tonight but it's a big one. Mineola is at Mt. Vernon for a battle of unbeaten teams.

Alba-Golden has its regular bye week tonight after a two-week hiatus due to COVID-19. And just this afternoon Quitman forfeited its game with Harmony tonight also due to the viral disease.

Mineola defense opens by forcing a three-and-out and then the Yellowjackets drives down the field 66 yards for a 7-0 lead. The drive featured all running plays and a heavy dose of Trevion Sneed , who took it in from six yards.

Mt. Vernon responds quickly with a drive dominated by the passing game and it's 7-7 late in the first quarter.

After two Mineola drives stall, Mt. Vernon takes its first lead 14-7 on a pass play in the second quarter.

Facing 4th and 13, the Yellowjackets strike on a TD pass from TJ Moreland to Dawson Pendergrass. A low snap thwarts the extra point to make it 14-13 Mt. Vernon over Mineola with 2:29 left in the half.

And at the half it remains MV 14, Mineola 13.

Mineola's first drive of the second half stalls but Mt. Vernon again moves quickly down field through the air, scoring on a quarterback draw. A missed extra point makes it Mt. Vernon 20, Mineola 13.

With Mineola's offense stalled, Moreland finds Pendergrass open deep for a 60-yard strike tying the score at 20.

Still 20 to 20 to start the fourth quarter.

A 28-yard field goal gives Mt. Vernon a 23-20 lead with 6:46 to play.

Teams exchange 4th down stops and Mt. Vernon can run out the last 1:14.
