Galaz places first among freshmen at XC state meet

On Saturday Mineola cross country runner Carlos Galaz competed at the State Cross Country Meet at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock.

Galaz ran a personal best of 17:20.9, nearly 17 seconds faster than his previous record of 17:37. Galaz earned that time at the regional race two weeks ago. He finished 47th out of 148 runners and was the fastest freshman in the state for Class 3A Boys.

Mineola Cross Country Coach David Smith believes Galaz has a very bright future ahead of him. “Carlos has the chance to be a special distance runner and I am very excited about the future of our program going forward. All of our runners this season worked extremely hard and deserve a lot credit. (We are all) Very proud of them,” Smith said.
