Hawkins grabs third win over Tyler HEAT
The Hawkins Hawks had two impressive wins last week against Union Hill and Tyler HEAT as they continue to prepare for district play which opens Friday.
Hawkins defeated Union Hill last Tuesday 64-47 with a dominant second period that saw the Hawks take a 17-point lead into halftime that they would not relinquish. Tristian Garrett led Hawkins with 32 points including six three-pointers.
Also contributing for the Hawks were Camron Taylor with nine points, Everin Gipson with eight points, Krispen Wooten with five points, Caleb Pair and Akim Richmond with three points each and Tyler Willard and Jeffrey Perkins with two points apiece.
Hawkins doubled up on Tyler HEAT Friday with a 64-32 win. It was the third time the teams have met this season with Hawkins taking all three games.
Hawkins led 18-7 after the first period and took a 37-13 lead into halftime off a 19-6 run in the second period. The Hawks continued their domination in the second half outscoring Tyler 27-19 and expanding the final margin.
Garrett once again led the way for the Hawks with 17 points with Taylor adding 13 points and Richmond with 12 points. Rounding the scoring for the Hawks were Pair with seven points, Wooten with six points, Willard with three points and Gipson with two points. Mark Pope had four points.
Hawkins (9-8) traveled to Fruitvale Tuesday, after Monitor press time, and hosts Overton in their first district game of the season.
