Mineola police activity for the past week

Aug. 17 - At 5:53 a.m. officers assisted the Wood County Sheriff’s department on a vehicle in the ditch at Highway 69 north at the city limits. When officers arrived they found the driver was wanted on a warrant out of Smith County and he was turned over to the sheriff’s department to handle the warrant.

The department received a call of a reckless driver coming into town on Highway 69 south. A Department of Public Safety trooper closely followed the vehicle through town and observed no violation. A second call regarding a reckless driver was reported on East Broad, however, when an officer followed the car no violations were observed. Also, at 6:51 p.m. an additional reckless driver was reported on East Broad. The officer was unable to locate the vehicle.

At 8:30 p.m. a suspicious person was reported on Country Club Drive. The person was taking pictures of the sunset.

Aug. 16 - At 9:39 a.m. officers answered a report of an older male getting into the railcars as a train was leaving Mineola. Since the train was going to Dallas and could not be stopped, Angelov Panajotov, 58, of Washington, was arrested in Dallas on a criminal trespass charge after receiving a warning the previous night. The previous night, at 7:12 p.m. Amtrak reported a man coming into Mineola that was on the train without a ticket. They reported he climbed on aboard in Dallas and for the past year they have been trying to catch him on the train. Once the train arrived in Mineola he was issued a criminal trespass warning and removed from the train.

At 1:45 p.m. Officers began a sexual assault of a child investigation. The officers were assisted by additional agencies.

A city ordinance violation was reported on Circle Drive where a male subject was going door to door asking to paint house numbers on the curb. The subject was told he had to have a permit.

At 11:36 p.m. a citation was written to a subject who was asking customers at Z Grocery for marijuana. He gave the officers consent to search his vehicle in the parking lot where they found a box containing a pipe used to smoke marijuana.

Aug. 14 - A man on Belcher Street said someone borrowed his bicycle and did not return it. Officers spoke with the person that borrowed the bicycle who had left it in another location. The bicycle was returned to the owner.

A person reported they found a debit card in the ATM at Bank Texas. They said they left it there, but it was gone when the officer checked.

A report of loud music on West Kilpatrick was called in. Police talked to both parties and an agreement was made to keep the music down.

At 6:28 p.m. a burglary of a habitation was reported on Boundary Street. The burglars reportedly cut a screen and took a video camera. The incident is under investigation and there are suspects.

Aug. 13 - At 4:54 a.m. Ricky John Addison, 34 of Canton, was arrested on a Van Zandt County warrant for assault during a traffic stop on North Pacific. He was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for failure to stop at designated point.

Sonic Drive In reported a counterfeit $20 bill was passed as payment for a meal. The person left Sonic and was stopped by a DPS trooper. Officers identified the female occupants and charges are pending.

A reckless driver call was reported on North Pacific. The woman driving pulled into a gas station and was found to be OK when an officer checked on her.

At 6:16 p.m. Mineola officers responded to assist the Wood County Sheriff’s Department on a disturbance on County Road 2840. The suspect was gone on arrival.

Aug. 12 - At 2:31 a.m. a welfare concern was reported for a woman on Front Street. Officers were unable to locate anyone at the residence. There was also a welfare concern at 11:28 a.m. in West Broad Street. Everything was OK when officers arrived.

At 5: 33 p.m. Mineola officers assisted the sheriff’s department on a vehicle accident on Highway 69 south at the river bridges.

And at 5:54 p.m. officers assisted the fire department with a power line sparking on Goodson Circle.

At 7:43 p.m. personnel at the Stage Store reported two female shoplifters stuffing items in bags and walking out. Officers stopped the suspects and found several pairs of shoes, clothes and school supplies. Queone Meshaun Green, 32, Tyler, was arrested for no driver’s license and criminal trespassing. There was already a criminal trespass warning in place. The other female was issued a warning from the store for trespassing. It is believed that some of the property came from a Greenville store. The property was returned to Stage Store and the incident is under investigation. It was also found that the school supplies came from the Alba Dollar General. The case of the stolen school supplies was turned over to Alba Police.

Aug. 11 - An assault report on a male victim was reported on University Street. The man said he was awakened at 3 a.m. by a lot of banging and when he went outside to tell the neighbor to be quiet, the neighbor threw a stick and hit him. He apologized and everything was OK.

Police received call about a reckless driver call on South 69 coming into town at a high rate of speed. The officer was unable to locate the vehicle.

At 9:40 p.m. a man reported his vehicle stolen from the Walmart parking lot. It was later found at the Whataburger parking lot.
