Graduation, like everything, up in the air
Educational and extracurricular school activities have yet again been pushed back until Monday, May 4. For now, Mineola ISD is still planning for senior graduation on Friday, May 22. However, as that date gets closer, all activities will be determined by the recommendations of local, state and federal officials.
“I think we are going to have to see where the number of cases are when we get closer to our return to school date. If they are still rising, I don’t see us being able to return to school. If we see a sharp decline in community spread, we may have a shot,” said Superintendent Cody Mize.
To further limit contact during social distancing, meal distribution at MISD is being altered.
“The meal distribution is going well. We are looking at starting to cut down on the number of distributions and trying to work out a plan for one delivery date and have all of the meals for the week provided to the family,” stated Mize.
On Mondays, curbside pickup and delivery will be at the normal time, but families will receive enough meals for breakfast and lunch for their children for the entire week.
As Good Friday, April 10, is a school holiday, no meals will be delivered that day. The cost for all other meals are reimbursed to the school district by the Department of Agriculture, and the budget is equipped to meet the meal demand with the capability to serve even more than families.
The MISD cafeteria and transportation departments are continuing to adapt for the benefit of its students and community.
