The Hooked on Fishing, Not Drugs Youth Fishing Tournament is approaching and will be held at Lake Fork at the Sabine River Authority grounds on Saturday, June 3 beginning at 8 a.m.
Anglers must be 16 years old or younger to participate and those under 7 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian - parental involvement is encouraged, but not required otherwise. Registration is free as the event is strictly designed to promote fishing as a sport and to give children who are less fortunate an opportunity to become involved.
All contestants must be registered by 8 a.m. and they must complete an official entry form to be eligible.
All contestants must comply with the Texas Parks & Wildlife code and Texas Water Safety. Contestants will be informed about legal lengths and limits and those who catch the fish must weigh them in. All fish have to be caught on a rod and reel and those caught any other way will be disqualified.
This is a catch-and-release tournament. Participants are encouraged to take their cameras to take pictures of their “catch.” Fish will have to be taken to the weigh station in the weigh bags provided. Fish may be weighed in at any time during the tournament although the last weigh-in will be at noon.
Prizes will be given for the largest fish in each category and age group.
Weigh-in and prize awarding will be after the tournament. A meal will be provided during the vent.
The Sabine River Authority Headquarters is on Farm-to-Market 288 between Highway 154 and 182.
