Harmony swamps past Quitman

After battling state-ranked Harmony to no score at the end of the first quarter, the Quitman Bulldogs fell victim to the powerful Harmony running game in a 52-0 loss at Eagle Stadium. The kick-off was moved up because of rainstorms in the area and the game was played in a steady rain.

After the scoreless first period, Harmony built a 30-0 lead by halftime on four rushing scores. The Eagles would go one to score all their touchdowns on the ground with Gage Goddard scoring four times. Goddard scored in the second quarter on runs of six and one yards. In that first half the Eagles scored on a 46 yard run by Barrett Hill and a 36 yard blast by Michael Everett. Harmony added three two-point conversions during the game.

“We actually played pretty good. We had the ball inside the 10 on our first drive and just could not get the ball in the end zone. We played some of our younger kids and they did a good job,” Head Coach Bryan Oakes said. “We recovered a fumble and had the ball around Harmony’s 20 and just could not finish and score.”

The constant rain caused several mishaps throughout the contest. “Trey Berry did a good job. The constant rain and the slippery conditions kept Trey from doing his thing,” Oakes added. “Harmony knew they were in a ball game. We were physical and our kids kept their heads up and played hard.”

The Bulldogs face Frankston this Friday. Frankston has yet to win a game this season. “Frankston is a lot better than people are giving them credit for. They have a good running game and we will have to be ready for them,” Oakes noted. “It should be a good game and our kids are looking forward to playing at home.”

Frankston is 0-7 with their latest loss to the Troup Tigers. The Indians have eight offensive and seven defensive starters back from last season’s 1-9 year. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at Bud Moody Stadium.
