Morgan Curtis, Alba-Golden’s first batter up in last Monday’s District 12-3A battle with the Mineola Lady Yellowjackets, wound up scoring from third on a single by Gracie Pendergrass to plate her squad’s first run and start the Lady Panthers on their way to a 4-2 victory. The game knocked Mineola out as the last undefeated team in league play this season and moved the Lady Jackets to 5-1 in district while Alba Golden inched up to 4-2.

On Tuesday, the Lady Yellowjackets hosted Eustace and breezed to 12-0 victory which upped their conference record to 6-1. In that game Audrey Bush unleased a two-run homer in the second and connected for a 2 RBI double in the fourth. Sydnie Bell went the distance in the circle for Mineola to record the victory.

The Lady Yellowjackets were scheduled to play at Edgewood on Tuesday of this week at 6 p.m. and host Grand Saline at 6 p.m. on Friday.

In Monday’s thriller with Alba-Golden, Mineola fell behind 2-0 in the third inning when Curtis walked, stole second and scored on a single by Pendergrass.

The bottom of the third looked bad for Mineola as the first two batters up, Eden Trent and Bre Willmoth struck out. However, Claudia Barriga walked to keep things alive. They then took second and third bases on passed balls and were joined on the base paths when Kiley Banks walked. The Alba-Golden second baseman then misplayed a ball off the bat of Bell which allowed Barriga and Banks to score to knot the count at 2-2.

After a scoreless fourth inning Alba-Golden opened the fifth with a single by Macie Pendergrass, who took second on a walk by Curtis. That brought up Lindsey Roberts, who singled to plate Pendergrass and move Curtis around to third. A throw to first which failed to toss out Weissert out at first allowed Curtis to cross the plate and set the final margin of victory.

Curtis worked the pitcher’s circle for the first four innings giving up w runs while yielding three hits and giving up three walks and recording 5 strikeouts. Bralee Littlejohn pitched the last three innings for the Lady Panthers, holding them scoreless while giving up three hits, not walking a single batter and recording two strikeouts.

Bell pitched a complete game for the Lady Yellowjackets, being tapped for four runs off eight hits and two walks while notching three strike-outs.
