The Hawkins Hawks fell to 1-2 on the year after falling 30-12 to Beckville Friday night. Beckville was able to score early on a safety when the Hawkins punter was tackled in the end zone while trying to handle an errant snap.

The Hawks continued to struggle on the punt snaps with two more costing them to give up good field position to Beckville. “We gave them a 9-0 right off the bat, but I am proud of the way our kids responded,” Head Coach Scott Evans said. “Beckville is 3-0 and they are very good. They are big up front and that gave us a little trouble. We ran the ball well but we just made too many mistakes to win the game.”

The Bearcats made it 9-0 just minutes later on a one yard run by J. D. Prince. Prince had runs of 24 and 40 yards on the drive. The Hawks fought back scoring on a short run by Akim Richmond to make it a 9-6 game.

Beckville came back to score twice making it a 23-6 game at the half. The Hawk defense played tough the rest of the way allowing just one more score in the fourth quarter on a short run.

The Hawks got a final score when Ibory “Teddy” Taylor bowled over from the one yard line. Normally a lineman at 5’10” and 335 pounds, Taylor is the Hawk’s goal line power runner. “Teddy is our go to guy at the goal line and he did a great job getting into the end zone,” Evans noted.

The Hawks host Linden-Kildare this Friday at 7:30 p.m. “Linden-Kildare is 3-0 right now, but I feel like we match up with them very well. They have a good team and have won some close games,” Evans added. “We are hoping to run the ball on them and come out with a win on our first game on the home field.”
