The day for submitting hay samples for the 52nd annual Mineola Hay Show will be Wednesday, Aug. 15. Exhibitors who want to enter this year’s Hay Show should bring samples to the Lester Cole Show Arena between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the 15th.
Entry to the collection site is located between the Mineola Middle School and the football field off FM 564. Direction signs will be posted.
Exhibitors will be allowed to enter two samples free of charge. Additional samples may be entered for a fee of $10 per sample. Each exhibitor will be given two tickets to attend the Hay Show Dinner, which will be held Sept. 11 at the Mineola Civic Center. Additional tickets may be purchased for $10 each. The Sept. 11 Hay Show will feature a dinner, entertainment by Jerry Carroll of North Carolina, and the hay auction.
The forage lab at Texas A&M University will test this year’s samples. It always is very important to know the feeding value of your hay so you can know what supplementation – if any – is needed. The Hay Show is an excellent opportunity for those who feed hay to determine that feeding value. Even if you purchase hay, this is a good opportunity for you to learn about its nutritional value.
