High schoolers earn places in all-region bands

High schoolers earn places in all-region bands
Wood County band students auditioned for the Texas Music Educators Association, Association of Texas Small School Bands high school Region 4 band last month and will attend band clinics then put on concerts Jan. 25 at White Oak High School.
Earning a spot in the top region band, the Wind Ensemble, Quitman’s Tristan Cheek placed 4th chair percussion. Atop the bands for Mineola were, on B-flat clarinet Ellery D’Angelo, 5th and Ana Cruz, 8th; bass-clarinet, Makayla Skinner, 1st; contra-bass clarinet, Trinity Kolo, 1st; French horn, Alana Galaz, 3rd; tenor trombone, Megan Holt, 1st; and on euphonium Lanie Yager got 2nd chair.
Placing near the top and making the all-region Symphonic Band were Quitman musicians Agenlina Rodriguez on bass clarinet, Rayann Roland on flute and Oscar Roman on B-flat clarinet. For Mineola, symphonic players include Ali Gonzalez on oboe; B-flat clarinetists Emily Phonsnasinh, Oliva Toleda, Rae Pendelton and Laurin Duncan; Esme Estrada on bass clarinet; Riley Woodard on tenor sax; Gabbie Wolf on tenor trombone; and percussionist Valerie Garcia.
Alternates include Whitney Woodruff on euphonium, saxophonist Taylor Ihlenfeldt, and percussionist Bianca Delgadillo, who will join the bands if other students are unable to attend.
