After 62 years, the remains of a Mineola man who was taken prisoner of war during the Korean War and who died in captivity will be buried at 1:15 p.m. DFW National Cemetery tomorrow.

Sergeant Charles Allen was 23 years old and a member of Company C, 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division when he served his last deployment in November 1950 in North Korea. During the attack he and his unit were encircled by enemy forces and were captured. He died on March 31, 1951 and was buried by fellow POWs.

Allen will be buried with full military honors. Family members including his sole surviving sibling, 87-year-old Gladys Harris of Mineola, are planning to attend the service. The Patriot Guard will also participate in the service.

Sgt. Allen's Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star will be presented at the graveside ceremony to his sister. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
