New officers named for Sabine River Authority
A new slate of officers was elected for 2017 at the annual Board of Directors meeting of the Sabine River Authority of Texas recently held in Rockwall.
Stan Mathews of Pinehurst was elected as board president.
Other elected officers include Vice President Earl Williams of Orange, Secretary / Treasurer David Koonce of Center and Secretary Pro-Tem Cliff Todd of Carthage. Other members of the SRA Board include Past President J.D. Jacobs, Jr. of Rockwall, Sharon Newcomer of Mauriceville, Jeanette Sterner of Holly Lake Ranch, Mac Abney of Marshall and Laurie Woloszyn of Longview.
Mathews owns and operates Mathews Jewelers, Inc., established in Orange in 1984 and expanded to Beaumont. He has served as board member, VP of economic development and Life Ambassador for the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce. He previously served as a school board member of Little Cypress Mauriceville ISD, as an advisory board member for Memorial Hermann Baptist Orange Hospital and is a member of the Texas Jewelers Association, Orange Rotary Club , among other organizations.
The Sabine River Authority of Texas is governed by a nine-member board of directors appointed by the governor. It is responsible for overseeing the development of water resources in the Sabine River Basin. Members are required to reside within a county situated wholly or partially within the watershed of the Sabine River to be active participants in the water issues being addressed by the Sabine River Authority of Texas.
