Inside and Outside the Picket Fence

Quitman Arboretum and Botanical Gardens

Inside the picket fence plans are moving along for the Spring Plant Sale. Saturday will find the Friends of the Arboretum up to their elbows in the very best selection of spring annuals, perennials, shrubs and trees that we could gather together for this one day event. Folks will be on site to help you make the right choice for the right spot in your landscape. What a great excuse to come on out to Hogg Park and stroll through the gardens as they start to “show their stuff.”

Outside the picket fence there are still many chores to be attended to. I become frustrated with my gardens at home when I see so much that needs to be done. At times, it seems overwhelming and I end up sitting in a lawn chair just watching the pelicans glide by on Lake Fork. Then there are those days when my energy level is in overdrive. I seem to accomplish more in one day then I have in a week’s time. We garden workers at the Arboretum go into overdrive in March and April. There are some weeds to be pulled, some mulch to be spread and some pruning to be done. This time is well spent with old and new friends. Join us on Wednesdays. The coffee is on.

Oops, I almost forget to remind you of the Mother’s Day Brunch at the Stinson House on Saturday, May 13! See our website for reservation information.
