Inside and Outside the Picket Fence
Many hands have been working outside the Picket Fence.
The new rose bed is well on its way to completion. Heirloom and Earth Kind roses have been tucked into their new homes. Rich soil followed by a layer of cardboard topped with a hearty dressing of mulch should ensure many seasons of blooms for all our visitors to admire. Stepping stones have been added to assist you as you stoop over to “smell the roses.” I have worked in these gardens for several years, as have many of my friends at the Arboretum, and I cannot begin to tell you how proud we are of the progress being made to present a beautiful area for Wood County residents and guests to visit.
Inside the Picket Fence, plans are underway and reservations are being secured for the annual Valentine’s Day Dinner. If you are looking for a candlelit venue to share this evening with someone special, reservations can be made on our website. You can also stop by on Wednesday morning to reserve a space.
I will be mentioning more about our free Wednesday workshops as the season progresses. These are classes on some basic garden chores for our friends and neighbors. No reservations are necessary. Bring your gloves and clippers to learn about rose pruning on Feb. 27. The coffee will be on.
