Quitman Arboretum and Botanical Gardens

Heavy rains and high winds pass through as spring continues its journey into our hearts and gardens.

The faithful redbud trees continue with a show of delicate blooms and the dogwood, Quitman’s signature tree, has started a display of white blooms worthy of photos.

The gardens at the Wood County Arboretum remind me of a class of well-behaved school children. They patiently wait their turn as the weather warms, and the sunlight intensifies. Whose turn will come next? Those of us who have gardened for many years will be able to tell you. Each plant has a special time to shine. Some continue delighting us for many weeks, as others come and go in a flash. As a parting plant note, I would like to draw your attention to a large planting of snapdragons at the far end of the newly renovated rose gardens. These plants will soon amaze with their color and beauty. Patience, patience.

Check our Facebook page for a description of the April Creative U. class. On Saturday, April 20 participants will be making a piece of yard art. They will leave the class with a treasure to take home and the knowledge to keep on designing and creating. The annual Spring Plant Sale will be held on Saturday, April 13.
