Iron Horse Festival latest event canceled by virus
Mineola’s Iron Horse Festival, held the fourth weekend in September, has been canceled for 2020.
The board of the Mineola Area Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the event, decided last week that the event could not be held this year due to COVID-19 impacts and restrictions.
The board had hoped to hold something later in the fall but decided instead to try to have additional events during the first Saturday in December which is capped by the Christmas parade.
The chamber has also had to cancel its annual membership banquet in March and the May fiesta.
Christmas events also include a tour of homes and the holiday bazaar by the Mineola League of the Arts.
The chamber board welcomed Barbara Stewart as the new chamber secretary.
