Jack Grady Harris Sr., 94, passed away at the Caraway Nursing Home in Quitman on Monday, July 4, 2022. Jack was born on March 22, 1928 in Paris, Texas. Jack was a World War Two veteran and U.S. Army paratrooper, serving in the war in occupied Japan. After returning from his military service, Jack attended Paris Community College.

Jack was a very well-known commercial and residential building developer in Dallas, Mesquite, Sunnyvale, Rockwall and the Forney areas. Jack built many homes that people continue to live in today, along with his younger son and business partner, Grady Wayne Harris. Jack and Grady were in business together for over 40 years and took great pride in their work. Jack was known as a hard but fair man to do business with and was known to make loans out of his pocket to help buyers achieve their dream of purchasing their own home.

Jack’s love and passion for the building business was only second to his love for his wife, Jackie. Jack remained actively involved in the building business with his son Grady until retiring in 2008.

Survivors include sons, Jack Grady Harris Jr. of Austin and Grady Wayne Harris of Quitman; great-grandchildren, John David Stark III of San Antonio and Lillianna Lucero of Denton; and his daughter-in-law, Tudchaphan Chodchoiy of Austin.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie Harris; his brother, Lewis William Harris; and his granddaughter, Christie Jane Harris.

A private graveside ceremony for family and friends will be held at a future date in Dallas.
