Jackets win two out of three final games

Mineola overcame a two-run first at-bat by Palestine Westwood Tuesday, March 10 to take a 9-3 baseball win.

The Yellowjackets responded with a run in the bottom of the first and tied the game with another in the second.

Mineola blew it open with a seven-run third. Westwood added a run in the fourth to end the scoring.

Mineola out-hit Westwood 6-4 as each team committed three errors.

Cason Davis and Caleb Gant each drove in three runs for the ‘Jackets. Dalton Rogers drew a pair of walks. Davis and Rogers each had a double. Thomas Hooton scored twice.

Davis and Gant each stole two bases, among seven for Mineola.

Davis pitched for 5 2/3 innings and struck out four batters. Jack Heard finished the game and struck out one.

On Monday, March 9 Commerce scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Mineola 11-8.

A five-run second gave Mineola the lead 6-1, and it was 7-2 after three.

Commerce got four in the fourth to get within one and tied it in the fifth.

Each team put up a run in the sixth to keep it tied at 8-8.

Rogers and Hooton each had two hits as Mineola pounded out seven. Rogers drove in two runs as did Remington Coleman.

Jacob Dabbs had two of the ‘Jackets’ seven steals.

Cole Castleberry went 5 2/3 and allowed eight runs, striking out three.

On Thursday March 12, Mineola got a one-hitter from Dabbs to defeat Cooper 13-0. He struck out seven.

Castelberry and Gant each had three hits and Rogers two. The trio each drove in two runs.

Mineola out-hit Cooper 14-1, and the Yellowjackets committed no errors.

With two runs apiece were Gant, Castleberry, Davis and Spencer Joyner. The Mineola offense had five doubles and stole 10 bases.

Remaining games are temporarily suspended.
