Jacksonville man arrested for assault after woman offers to give him a ride
A woman who decided to give an intoxicated man a lift wound up seeking help from a DPS trooper after the man reportedly became argumentative, agitated and aggressive toward her, according to a Mineola police report.
At 12:42 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, a female stopped and asked for help when she saw a DPS trooper sitting at a business on South Pacific Street, according to police.
She said she had met a man at a restaurant and club in Lindale and decided to give him a ride because he was intoxicated.
After a brief while, he became argumentative, so she intended to take him back to his vehicle in Lindale, a police report indicated.
The woman stated that the man became agitated and reached over and pulled her face toward him in an aggressive manner while she was driving.
She became worried about driving him back to Lindale, so she stopped to get help from the trooper.
A Mineola police officer met with the trooper and the two individuals, according to police.
After a brief investigation, the officer arrested Neill Austin Beckham, 37, of Jacksonville on suspicion of assault by threat.
