Quitman Anchor Club attends annual convention
Eighteen members of the Quitman High School Anchor Club attended the 35th Annual Texas District Anchor Convention in Granbury at the Hilton Garden Inn and Convention Center recently. Sponsors accompanying them were Pilot President Brenda Hunter and Pilot Anchor Coordinators Sherri Hawley and Patricia Hightower. There were 123 Anchors from across Texas in attendance.
Members attended meetings conducted by the Texas District officers on Fundraising Ideas, Interview Skills, Cell Phone Etiquette and Self Defense. Quitman District Vice-President Diego Flores led the Cell Phone Etiquette breakout and Sydney White of Quitman served as assistant parliamentarian for the convention. Quitman’s nominee for district treasurer, Kinsey McFerren, was elected and installed as one of the 2017-2018 Texas District Anchor officers. McFerren will attend the Pilot Club District Convention in April, and 2017 International Anchor Summit in Las Vegas in July.
Quitman received first place for their scrapbook. Also, they brought home the Advisor of the Year award to their well deserved advisor, Janet Turner, who was unable to attend. Turner’s award was the second consecutive year she has received the honor.
The Quitman Anchor Club is sponsored by the Pilot Club of Quitman. Like the Pilot Club, their focus is brain related disorders whether at birth, or from a TBI (traumatic brain injury) and promoting brain health and service throughout the community.
