A professor from China will educate a class of Jarvis Christian College students on the Chinese culture and language this fall semester.

Yu Bo, a faculty member at the Central China Normal University in Wuhan, China, is a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA). He will teach students Elementary Chinese I for the 2019-20 school year.

“I am eager to join in Fulbright’s FLTA Program, which in my eyes is a great project in promoting Chinese language teaching and learning and is of much significance in enhancing cross-cultural communication,” Bo said in a statement. “Together, I believe we can communicate greater things for a greater number of people since the global village has become more and more integrated and interdependent as a family.”

The Fulbright FLTA program was established to develop Americans’ knowledge of foreign cultures and languages through teaching assistantships in more than 30 languages at U.S. institutions of higher education. FLTAs are able to gain first-hand experience of America, its culture and people, according to the Fulbright website.

The program is sponsored by the United States Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA).
