Chamber manager’s last day is Friday

Mineola Chamber of Commerce Manager Marianne Eubanks will be leaving the chamber on Friday, the day after this year’s banquet.

Eubanks joined the chamber in January 2015.

Eubanks said she plans work on her home business, which will be a travel agency she has named Tin Lizzy Travel which will have a theme inspired by the train depot. Her husband’s situation at work has changed and it has created the environment in which it will be a good time for her to launch the business. She is taking classes on the topic.

She is training chamber board member Ken Johnson, who is also the board treasurer, on handling the accounting and bookkeeping for the chamber. Johnson, a lieutenant colonel and district-level officer in the Masons has a background in the creation of software systems for banks and financial institutions. As it was in months prior to when Eubanks was hired, the office will be run by volunteers for a while.

“He’s a very calm and easygoing man. He’s been wonderful,” she said. She said when he became treasurer it was a big help to her because she wanted to have a second person able to watch and see what she was doing with the books.

Eubanks is excited about some things coming up for the chamber, including their new website through Wild Apricot with which Neil Duncan will help. Members will be able to have their own personal websites on which they can post specials or coupons. Other business with the chamber will be able to be conducted through the site, including filling out information to join the chamber. That new site is expected to launch at the end of March.

While Eubanks is leaving behind the title and job of chamber of commerce manager, she said she won’t be leaving the town and her connections behind. “I’m not disappearing,” she said. She plans to still volunteer to help with various organizations in town.
