As the year ends people often reflect and make resolutions to make 2020 a better year. Greater East Texas Community Action Program promotes a special program targeting people who are serious about finding a job, getting a better job or receiving training.

The RISE program stands for Reaching Independence through Supportive Elevation. The purpose is to help people move to greater economic independence.

2020 can be a better year with deliberate changes. According to Program Director Teresa Land, “The economy is changing. Job opportunities are different. Rural East Texas has special challenges and we want to help people make the most of available opportunities.  RISE offers a specialized approach for everyone. The beginning of a new year is a great time to get serious about improving earning ability.”

Special support may be available for intense job search and short term training programs leading to a job. The program focuses on assistance to attend training or do job search and may include gasoline assistance, utility assistance and other documented needs.

According to local Case Manager Shelia Dutton, “Coordination with other agencies and organizations is a cornerstone of the program.   Many have gone through this program and significantly improved their earning ability.”

Individuals are required to qualify by household income and other documentation. Income guideline is 125% of federal poverty. Those seeking training should act as quickly as possible.
