Jones to chair Meals on Wheels’ anniversary banquet

Meals on Wheels Ministry (MOWM) announced that Amanda Jones, co-owner of Tyler Tents and Events, will chair the ministry’s 45th Anniversary Banquet, to be held at Green Acres CrossWalk Conference Center on Tuesday, Oct. 2.

The event theme of “Farmers Market” will showcase the natural beauty and home-grown abundance of our local farmers markets. It will also highlight the nutritional foundation of MOWM, which serves nearly 3,000 homebound senior and disabled people living across six counties in East Texas.

Jones first became involved with MOWM during the 42nd Anniversary Banquet, when former banquet chairs Jennifer Hines and Trudy Williams enlisted her help with the arrangements for the event. Today, Hines and Williams serve on the MOWM Board of Directors, and they invited Jones to chair this year’s event.

She moved to Tyler in 2012 and started her own event draping company called Mirabella. “Two years later, my father, Andy Jones and I opened Tyler Tents and Events.”

The Farmers Market theme “epitomizes the Meals on Wheels idea. A Farmers Market is people taking fresh produce and goods, in a truck (a.k.a. wheels) to people or a local area for people to partake in. What a better way than to celebrate the 45th anniversary of MOWM with a theme that is literally a meal on wheels? Perfect!” said Amanda Jones.

The Anniversary Banquet is the primary fundraiser for Meals on Wheels Ministry, and all proceeds go directly to providing services to people in need. Sponsorships and tickets are available. More information can be found at www.mowmet.org.

Meals on Wheels Ministry serves nearly 3,000 seniors and homebound individuals in 30 communities across six counties, including Gregg, Henderson, Smith, Upshur, Van Zandt, and Wood. Meals on Wheels Ministry is dedicated to providing good nutritious meals, daily contacts, and other support services that enable senior citizens and disabled persons to remain independent and living in their own homes as long as possible.
