Kern Betts, 71, of Mineola, passed away on Aug. 25, 2019 at UT Health Center in Tyler after a lengthy battle with cancer.

A memorial service to celebrate Kern’s life will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7 at Living Waters Fellowship, 2574 FM 2088, Quitman with Pastor David Hartley officiating.

Kern was born May 16, 1948 to Ben and Edith Carroll in Dallas. She married John Betts in 1972 and had one child, her daughter, Kemi. She moved to Mineola in 1982 and was the co-owner of Good News Lawn Care. She had many pursuits, including her lifelong passion for softball, love of animals (especially dogs), cooking, journaling, fishing, remodeling and volunteering. She became a Christian in 1982 and loved her Lord, and her church, deeply.

She is survived by her loved ones, her husband and daughter; her brother, Frank Carroll of Colleyville and his wife Bonnie; her sister, Nita Bryant, of Mineola; and numerous adopted family and friends.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to any of her favorite charities: Mountain High Camp for the brain injured, the Hospice of East Texas, or the Rains County Food Bank in Emory.
